Graduation and Introducing Clinically Relevant News

At the ceremony with my advisor, Dr. Hazel Prelow.

Getting hooded by my advisor.

My family and partner who helped me survive this crazy process of getting my Ph.D.!

Hey y’all (practicing my Texas)! Thanks for taking the time to visit my website, including the Clinically Relevant Blog [link]. The other week I got to do something exciting, namely walk for doctoral graduation! I have attached some pictures of me in my wizard robes along with family and faculty advisor who were kind enough to take time out of their schedules and attend my graduation (which was a brief 2.5 hours long). My conferral date (the date I actually graduate) is not until August, but my school allows us walk early if you have everything done on time minus finishing your internship (the school recently decided to do away with December graduation for whatever reason).

So officially one step closer to actually graduating which is very exciting. Pretty surreal moment getting hooded by my advisor Dr. Prelow; it has been a lot of work getting to this point and very weird that it almost done. However, I would definitely do it all again if I had the choice as it has been amazing getting to study and work in an area I am passionate about. Should be interesting to see what the next few years have ahead of me. After getting your Ph.D., you still need supervised postdoctoral clinical hours in most states and provinces. In addition, you need to pass state/provincial licensure exams in addition to a beast of a test called the EPPP (Examination for the Professional Practice in Psychology; pronounced “e triple p”). A lot of work ahead!

However, before I focus on all that fun stuff, I decided to take some time off to visit with family and friends in Canada. After graduation and saying goodbye to Albany (where my school is) and beautiful upstate New York, I went up to northern Ontario to see the new house my parents recently retired to from California. Next, I visited my brother and friends in Toronto; was nice to be in a large metropolitan city again (sorry Austin, you are just not there yet!). Now I am back in Austin for the last couple of months of internship! Time to finish strong and start planning my next steps.

Also time for an update on the website, I will be adding a new section to the website called Clinically Relevant News where I will be posting brief summaries and links to important news articles that discuss topics relevant to psychology and wellness more broadly. I am doing this because I think it is important to stay current with the news and this will provide a centralized area to find articles of interest. Let me know your thoughts, good and not so good, about the website by sending a message. Thanks again for visiting and look forward to providing updates in the next few months as plans formalize and change!
